The Rigors of Social Media

In an effort to keep people more informed about my musical performances and such - something I am admittedly terrible at doing - I have (finally) created a facebook page for my music.

Now, you might say, "What took you so long?"

Well, when you think about it, social media sites are quite an obligation. It's nearly like having another job...and is as much of a time suck as finding old episodes of My So-Called Life on Netflix. But it is a necessary evil of the promotional realm of being a successful musician. And if 12 year olds can promote the hell out of themselves, why shouldn't I?

I've always found it hard to toot my own horn [insert joke here], and I haven't quite been able to identify the root of this issue. Maybe it's because I was always taught to be seen and not heard. Maybe it's because it feels selfish. Maybe it makes me a braggart. And yet I have no trouble talking about my music or my writing or my passion when someone asks. I need to remember that people may always be asking out there somewhere, even if I can't hear them.

And so I've resolved to make a more concerted effort to use the tools the media has to offer: facebook, FanBridge, VibeDeck, blogger, etc. to promote what I do. And what I want to do. And what I am trying to do. It will be a lot of work, a lot of posting, a lot of discipline, and a lot of reminding myself that there is room for improvement in the promotion department of the Laura Glyda musical franchise. I am up for the challenge.

In the words of Rodgers and Hammerstein, "Nothing comes from nothing; nothing ever could."

Here's to the many 'somethings' I will be posting in the near future, and to the endless possibilities of their yield.

Is this thing on?

So yeah, it's been a while since my last post.

It feels like it's been a while since my last anything.

Consider this a test...
