Cross-eyed and painful...

I think I'm going cross-eyed from staring at this computer screen. I guess deciding to write a blog about it doesn't really help my case. Nevertheless, I feel like writing, so it's a darn good thing I have this here handy little blog.

It's funny to think about writing a blog...it's writing to no one, and everyone, and anyone - all at the same time. There's this weird feeling of sending your thoughts out into cyberspace, just for the sake of sending them out. Getting it off your chest. But you really know that you're writing it in hopes that someone will read it. (Not necessarily anyone in particular, but just someone out there in the great wide world.) It would be horribly depressing to write a blog and assume that you were all alone in your thoughts. That no one would ever read what it was you were saying. Someone once told me that writing in a journal was like swimming in your own vomit. (Or maybe she told me that someone told her that.) Aside from that being a really nasty analogy, it's an interesting viewpoint. I guess whoever said that wasn't really ever a writer...

I guess deep down, we all just really want to be heard. Whether it's on a physical level, a literary level, a musical level, or another artistic level...we've all got a voice, and we need the opportunity to make ourselves heard one way or another. And it's when that connection happens that you feel fulfilled - when someone comments on your blog. It's the greatest feeling in the world, isn't it? Knowing that someone took the time to read whatever it was you had to say is oddly rewarding. And if they connected to it in some way?? Well, then that's just about the greatest thing anyone can tell you.

It's pretty narcissistic when you really think about it...like giving everyone their own little talk show. "I'm so important, I have a place where I can just broadcast my wit and the public can benefit from it!" I guess the redemption of it lies in the likelihood that very few people actually read other people's blogs religiously. You can correct me if I'm wrong. (See? I'm assuming that there are throngs of people out there dying to respond to my postulation. How selfish of me.)

People are amazed at how these blogs and myspace pages have caught on, but really, when you think about it, it's not that strange at all. We just needed someone to do all the legwork for us, provide us with an outlet for our inner monologue, and make it easy to post on the good ol' www. (Who would want to learn html just so they could rant about a horrible date they just went on??)

.: sigh :.

And after all that, I forgot what it was I originally wanted to write about. Hmmm...
